Project Description

With public lands serving as a sanctuary of solace more now than ever, this project’s goal is to increase educational awareness about human impacts on the environment, specifically in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. In May 2022, Friends of the Bridger-Teton secured 1 million dollars in funding to expand our Ambassadors for Responsible Recreation program. This lodging-tax shift emphasizes sustainable tourism and has focused efforts in Teton County. This fundraiser with The Great Outdoors Fund is pivotal to ensure we have forest wide ambassador representation in Sublette and Lincoln counties.

Why It Matters

Ambassadors for Responsible Recreation (ARR) is a self-reinforcing initiative that aims to: a) reach visitors where they are, both in terms of physical location & level of outdoor experience and b) mitigate the negative impacts of increased use on the National Forest with volunteer ambassadors deployed at the Forest’s heaviest impacted sites Ambassadors are a highly effective means to modify visitor behavior while also making users feel welcome. The face-to-face interactions that ambassadors provide are essential, especially when accompanied with strong educational & outreach components. By creating an approachable and safe space to learn, visitors can become good stewards of public lands.
