Strengthens its Support for The Great Outdoors Fund to Enhance Recreation Access & Infrastructure
January 30, 2025 – The Great Outdoors Fund (TGOF) is proud to announce its partnership with Occidental (Oxy), one of the largest oil and natural gas producers in the United States, is growing in 2025. This year, Oxy is funding four new projects in four states, including Texas, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Colorado.
All the projects address infrastructure needs and complement ongoing efforts to improve popular recreation areas. These projects will bring tangible benefits to thousands of outdoor enthusiasts and demonstrate the power of public-private partnerships in creating lasting impacts.
“Oxy’s support enables us to tackle essential improvements at recreation sites in four states, ensuring the sites are accessible and enjoyable for everyone,” said Lori McCullough, CEO of The Great Outdoors Fund. “From making fishing more accessible to building shaded structures for visitors, the projects will enhance the outdoor experience and encourage more people to connect with nature.”
Construction on a fifth project, the Lobatos Bridge Outdoor Classroom & Recreation Enhancement Project in Colorado’s San Luis Valley, previously funded by Oxy, is now underway. As one of the first corporate donors, Oxy has played a key role in advancing this transformative initiative, which has been nearly four decades in the making. “These projects reflect our dedication to improving outdoor spaces and strengthening the communities where we live and work,” said Tom Janiszewski, Vice President of Land, Regulatory, Government Relations and Corporate Affairs for Oxy. “By investing in recreation and conservation, we’re ensuring that families and outdoor enthusiasts can continue to enjoy these areas for years to come.”
In addition to funding, Oxy employees will participate in volunteer workdays at each site, joining community members to bring these projects to life. The initiatives will be celebrated through community events, including fishing derbies, volunteer recognitions, and ribbon cuttings, highlighting Oxy’s contributions.
