In accordance with the goals and objectives of the RGNA Management Plan (completed in 2015), and consistent with its Hands on the Land (HOL) designation this project is designed to develop a nature-based classroom and enhance recreation opportunities at the Lobatos Bridge site with a strong focus on interpreting the area’s rich natural and cultural heritage. Recreation site amenities supporting this goal include: interpretive and informational signs; improved parking and access; a boat ramp; benches, fire rings, shelters, and picnic tables; an interpretive trail loop; cultural site protection structures; decorative fencing, and; a waterless restroom. All infrastructure will be ADA-compliant and compliant with the American Barriers Act.
This project satisfies the intent of the RGNA Act of 2006, which was established “to conserve, restore, and protect the natural, historical, cultural, scientific, scenic, wildlife, and recreational resources of the Natural Area.” This project will provide social, environmental, and economic benefits to visitors and residents of supporting communities in a part of Colorado that is chronically underserved and under-represented and has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country.
