Project Description

To renovate site furnishings at Chilhowee Day Use Area, a heavily used picnic and swimming site and trailhead on the Ocoee Ranger District of the Cherokee National Forest

Why it Matters

Chilhowee Recreation Area is a significant developed recreation site on the Cherokee National Forest, drawing residents from Polk and Bradley Counties as well as the metro Chattanooga and northwest Georgia area. It is heavily used by families camping in the campground, diverse populations looking for an afternoon of grilling and swimming, and those wanting to hike the very popular Benton Falls Trail or mountain bike the system of trails across the southern side of the mountain.
