Project Description

The Great Outdoors Fund, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Colorado, and Pikes Peak Climbing Alliance are working together to fully fund the enhancement and expansion of Sand Gulch Campground, nestled within Shelf Road Rock Climbing Area, near Cañon City, Colorado.

Why it Matters

Climbing’s growing popularity has strained the campground’s amenities. The need to enhance and expand this campground is paramount. Funding to rejuvenate the existing campsites is available to build 16 new campsites, a new group campsite and campground-host site, expand parking, and install new vault toilets. Funding is still needed for new interpretive education kiosks, and fencing and to employ a youth corps crew to help put the finishing touches on this notable project.
