Project Description

To enhance recreation infrastructure, improve the visitor experience and implement a nationally innovative recreation management solution on the most popular OHV area in the state of Colorado and one of the most heavily visited ranger districts in the nation. Funding will be used to purchase ADA compliant metal fire rings and concrete as well as hire a Youth Corp crew to conduct the installation of the fire rings at 115 dispersed campsites in an area which is visited by 50,000+ outdoors enthusiasts, the vast of which are OHV enthusiasts and hunters, annually.

Why it Matters

Improving the infrastructure of these dispersed campsites will help the Forest Service to better manage the area, mitigate fire risk and allow the Forest Service to engage a concessionaire to assist in the management of the area while also requiring the concessionaire to install and manage portable restrooms which will a growing problem with human waste. This increased level of facilities and management will also allow for the implementation of a small fee which will eliminate squatters (a growing problem with the growing population along Denver\\\’s Front Range) and also generate revenues for the Forest Service that must be invested back into the area.
