The RECreate Koshio Park project is a community-driven initiative led by Fort Lupton’s Parks & Recreation Department to renovate the 2.1-acre Sam Koshio Memorial Park. Extensive bilingual community engagement informed the design, ensuring the park is inclusive, accessible, and family-friendly recreational space. Planned amenities include an ADA accessible playground, pavilion, walking trail, enhanced safety measures, and upgraded facilities. Project completion is targeted for late 2026/early 2027.
This project matters because equitable access to safe, inclusive parks is a top priority for Fort Lupton and is clearly stated in the city’s 2018 Parks & Trails Master Plan. In a community that is 57% Hispanic/Latino, the park had become outdated and underused. Through 17 bilingual engagement events, residents of all ages told the city exactly what they needed. The result is a true “park for the people, by the people.”
